COCA-COLA RECYCLING LLC LAUNCHES MOBILE REIMAGINE RECYCLING SHOWCASE IN GARLAND
Mobile, educational version of Reimagine Beverage Containers Recycling Center Comes to Kroger in Garland
February 7, 2011 (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX) – Coca-Cola Recycling LLC introduced a mobile, educational version of its Reimagine Beverage Containers Recycling Center at Sundance Square in Fort Worth, Texas for the Super Bowl crowd. The unit features the actual recycling function plus a walk-through educational view of the groundbreaking Reimagine recycling technology. The same Reimagine Recycling Showcase will be at Kroger in Garland located at 6850 North Shiloh Road this Thursday and Friday, February 10-11, 2011from Noon until 6:00 pm. The public is invited to bring their cans and beverage bottles and come see this new way to reward recycling.
The Reimagine Recycling Showcase (RRS) is equipped with video screens, interactive displays and games designed to educate consumers about the benefits of recycling —and the value of having a permanent Reimagine Beverage Containers recycling center in their community. Guests that bring beverage containers for recycling will be rewarded for their time and recycling efforts with instant prizes. The unit will travel to various cities and communities throughout the area as Coca-Cola Recyling prepares for a rollout of their new recycling initiative.
“The mobile version of Reimagine allows us to reach — and teach — children and adults about the value and simplicity of recycling their beverage containers,” said John Burgess, president of Coca-Cola Recycling LLC. “They get to watch the process and discover what their recycling efforts can help achieve.”
Reimagine Beverage Containers recycling centers are designed to offer free and convenient access to beverage container recycling for those who don’t currently recycle. The stationery and mobile units are the result of collaboration with Environmental Products Corporation (Envipco), and use breakthrough, proprietary technology developed by Envipco.

Unlike many consumer recycling centers where containers are inserted one at a time, the Reimagine technology allows the recycler to bulk-feed cans and PET plastic bottles. The containers are fed onto a conveyor where optical scanners verify the material and sort by type. The PET bottles and aluminum containers are separated, crushed and stored; everything else is sent to a reject bin. Because the material is pre-sorted and crushed, it can move efficiently through the recycle stream and into the production process to be made into new products.
Based on recycling industry research, Coca-Cola Recycling believes that more than 300,000 beverage containers will be recycled monthly through each Reimagine center, diverting more than 70 tons of material from local landfills annually. The mobile version will serve as an education center and give consumers a preview of the unit that could be coming to their community.
“We know that people want to recycle,” Burgess said, “but when recycling is difficult or inconvenient, too many used beverage containers end up as waste. We believe that Reimagine will grow recycling by making it easy, accessible and fun.”
