Emma Thompson

Grew up in a family of entertainers. Father was a stage director and actor; mother is an actress. Was a member of the Footlights comedy troupe while at Cambridge; briefly dated her Footlights colleague Hugh Laurie. In 1988, headlined her own BBC variety-comedy show titled Thompson . First person to win Academy Awards for both acting ( Howards End ) and writing ( Sense and Sensibility ); keeps her Oscars in her bathroom.
