The calendar says it's spring, but Warner Bros. must think it's fall. Why else would it serve a turkey like the vivid but vacuous Sucker Punch, director Zack Snyder's video game/anime/comic book/fantasy mashup that action-adventure fans have been hotly anticipating for months?
Yes, it looks great -- the alluring, desaturated color; a reported $85 million budget; five seductively clad, weapons-wielding heroines; and Snyder's tech-savvy fanboy sensibilities make sure of that -- but beyond that, there's nothing emotionally to connect with, nothing to hang on to beyond passionless pyrotechnics.
