TC Shaved Ice is something of an institution in Garland. I remember growing up in the area, and frequenting the stand after exhausting afternoons of cheerleading camp during the sweltering Texas summers. Dallas, McKinney and Plano also have locations. Some swear by the Knockout, which is shaved ice plus scoops of homemade piña colada ice cream, but I’m more of a traditionalist: One large cherry shaved ice, please.

I used to frequent TC Shaved ice in Garland, which was very good. However, this location, at least on the night I visited, was not pleasant. Way too much syrup--which means that no matter how fast you try to eat it, it drips over the sides to stain your clothes. Half of the flavors we ordered they were "out" of, and even the ones they suggested (which weren't on the menu) they were suddenly "out" of as well. I accidently miscalculated how much I owed them--and asked them about it politely and the owner was really rude about it. I probably not ever go back.
