Chestnut Square Historic Village

Tours of seven homes and buildings dating from the 1850s provide visitors to the Chestnut Square preservation area a chance to gain a better understanding of pioneer life in Collin County.
Tours are given at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Other tours can be arranged for groups by calling 972-562-8790. No tours in August.
Among the sites to be visited on the tours of Chestnut Square are the following:
Dulaney Museum: Built in 1916, this two-story home features a wrap-around porch and contains a collection of vintage clothing and artifacts from the 1860s to the 1920s.
Faires House: This structure was built in 1853 by John Faires. It was in the line of fire during a Civil War battle fought in McKinney. Civil War bullets were found inside when the structure was moved to its present location.
Taylor House: Built in 1863, this simple box construction structure was purchased by Armstead J. Taylor at an 1868 auction and used as an inn. Traveling salesmen frequented the place in the 1870s, referring to it as the "Two-Bit Taylor Inn" because of the 25-cent nightly rate.
Johnson House: This "Folk Victorian"-style house was built in 1870 by Texas politician John H. Johnson and occupied by his descendants until 1987, when it was restored.
Dulaney Cottage: Joseph E. Dulaney built this small structure in 1875. It has been furnished with authentic, period furniture. Each piece is from Collin County.
Dixie's Store: Built in 1918, this store was moved to Chestnut Square in 1996 for preservation and restoration.
Chapel: This typical meeting-house chapel served for eight decades as the Foote Baptist Church and is now available for rental for weddings, receptions and other meetings.
