See how money gets made at the U.S. Department of the Treasury Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Fort Worth. The 100-acre facility is the only other place besides the bureau in Washington, D.C., where you can watch U.S. currency being produced. Visitors can also check out a recently restored, fully operational, turn-of-the-20th-century spider press and an engraver's bench. Got any mutilated currency? The bureau is the place where you can turn in badly damaged money and, if it passes the inspection process, you will receive a Treasury check for the value of the currency. But the bureau won't retire a dollar bill just because it's ripped. See the Web site for a list of qualifications for what's considered "mutilated."
