I will say that I am a fan of the burgers at this point, but there is so much more to try at Fred's. We ventured to Fred's today because we are visiting as many Diners, Drive-Ins and Dive show locations as possible and we were just 2 miles away at the Fort Worth Zoo.
We were luck at 1:00 on a Sunday to find both a parking spot and a table outside on the patio. We ordered the blue cheese burger which was very good and a standard 1/4 pound cheese burger for the daughter which was also very good.
The burger meat is extremely tasty and all the toppings are in just the right proportions to make you love the burger. The blue cheese burger had plenty or delicious blue cheese, but it was not over powering. The cheese burger had a nice blend of mustard and other condiments to make it a winner.
We also had the benefit of live music which was nice, but made conversation at the table a little difficult.
So why did Fred loose a star? Well it was for two different reasons. First the water at Fred's tastes like it cam out of a river and has a strong earthy taste to it, especially its after taste. I would prefer to drink water with my meal, but it tasted so bad I had to spend another $7.50 (a quarter of my total bill) to purchase drinks that were safe to drink. Second was the fact that our waitress must have been having an off day. She was very inefficient and didn't care is she served a glass that had soda all down the side of it. The other waitresses were working their butts off but we unfortunately must have got the wrong one.
I would say that we will return to Fred's again someday to at least try the Diablo burger or made the Fred's tacos. We will decide at that point it it is worth the drive to become a regular.
