The M Crowd Restaurant Group operates 24 restaurants under five names – Mi Cocina (16 restaurants), Taco Diner (5 Restaurants), Mainstream Fish House, The Mercury, and The Mercury Chophouse.
The story of this company starts in 1991 with the opening of the first Mi Cocina. Michael 'Mico' Rodriguez and his wife Carolina (along with business partners Ray & Dick Washburne and Bob McNutt) opened in the Preston Forest neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. Their goals were as modest as their 12 table restaurant. From day one, Mico focused on using the highest quality ingredients in every recipe.
The result? People lined up outside the door. Success, and expansion, soon followed. The second Mi Cocina opened in 1993 in Highland Park Village and a star was born.
In 1998, M Crowd ventured into fine dining with the opening of The Mercury which was immediately named Restaurant of the Year.
This was followed by Mainstream Fish House and Mercury Chophouse. M Crowd also developed an entirely new concept restaurant – Taco Diner, serving Mexico City style tacos and fresh fish dishes. There are now five Taco Diners.
Success also depends on surrounding yourself with good people. Mico is the first to acknowledge that this is what has made the expansion possible. In truth, working at Mi Cocina is like being part of a family. Many servers and cooks have been with the company for years and virtually every store manager has worked their way up the company ladder.
From one to 24 restaurants in fourteen short years. Driven by a commitment to quality, the company is poised for the level of growth, but never at the expense of the high standards of food quality and service which are at the foundation of their success.
