Catfish Smith started in 1971 and still remains today a family owned operated business, the fish is prepared with a old fashion family secret recipe which was originated in Louisiana some 100 years ago, this old fashion recipe along with other techniques for the preparing of catfish was brought to Dallas by one of the more senior family members, most catfish that is sold at Catfifh Smith is imported daily from Arkansas and Mississippi where catfish is farmed raised in extensive amounts. Our technique as far how long the fishes actually cook and at what temperature is another major part of our success.
Although the restaurant primary product is catfish we offer other items such as our cracker batter style shrimp, oyster, frog legs, salmon croquettes, buffalo fish, ocean perch, sweet potato pies, homemade cake, hushpuppies, okra, french fries, potato salad, shrimp salad, cole slaw, crab stuff peppers and last but not least we specialize in a flavorsome one of the kind catfish gumbo. However, ninety percent of our customers still ask for our world famous catfish.
Over the years we have learned several things that are very important to this business, but one of our most important lesson is that catfish without tartar sauce is like a day without sunshine, we therefore had develop our scrumptious tartar sauce which is prepared each day from scratch.
